What is a private cloud?

A private cloud is a cloud environment dedicated to one organisation. How isolated it is, who operates it and where the data sits depend on the service.

Where this one gets misread

Private describes tenancy, not location and not control. A private cloud can still be operated by a third party, sit in another jurisdiction, and have vendor staff holding access. All three are compatible with the word.

Ask for a worked example on your own material, and the evidence needed to reproduce it.

  • Who operates it?
  • In which jurisdiction does it sit?
  • Which vendor staff can reach it, under what process?
  • What, if anything, is shared with other customers?
